WWI: Franz Ferdinand

So this is where World War I started. Right here, on this narrow street, Franz Ferdinand survived one attack as he and his wife went along the river from the palace. He was visiting the city of Sarajevo with his wife. He deflected one attack, caught and tossed away an attacker's grenade, then saw the wounded to the hospital, and after that went to the palace. On the way back, he was killed by a .32 Browning by Princip. And here is the street. Narrow. The assassin killed both Ferdinand and his wife. What is crazy is that in all the histories I have read, they never mention his wife, or at least I do not remember his wife. But here, they make sure the visitors know she died also.

The middle gun is the actual assassin's gun, the bomb under it is a picture of
of the grenade.

They captured these seven standing along the prince's route.

These concrete footsteps sometimes sit outside the museum,
where Princip stood to kill the prince. The concrete block is often moved
inside because of vandalism.

Weapons around 1890.

Inlay on a rifle

THE Corner.

Princip crossed the street, and jumped off the bridge to escape.
Stupid Princip broke his ankle landing in the shallow water below,
and was caught.

The route through Sarajevo.

It is crazy to think that such a human world changing event was started on such narrow streets.
