Four Days in London

Big Ben
Well it has been longer than a month since we were in London, so I guess it is time to complete the blog. I guess we would like to say that we have been busy, but we worked until the 17th of December and have been on vacation ever since. So, I am going to make these last two days in London a little shorter and just share the pictures. Because a lot has happened since going to London and I (Honey) want to get caught up before we go back to school on the 10th of January.

Back to London...we saw many great sights while we were visiting.

We did however spend almost an entire day in the Tower of London. Here is some information about the Tower from the travel guide for those of you that may not be as familiar. The Tower has served as a castle in wartime, a king's residence in peace, and, most notoriously, as the prison and execution site of rebels. We were able to see the crown jewels, dating from the Restoration, and they were pretty amazing! We weren't allowed to take any pictures of the crown jewels, so you will have to go visit them for yourself to see them, but they were beautiful. We also crossed over the London Bridge while singing London Bridges falling down. Not really but the thought went through my head. The bridge is beautiful.

As we were walking through the Tower we came across some iron statues that were in different poses, so as we came across them we took their picture. You will see them soon.

Tower of London
It was a rainy day in London which isn't a big surprise, but we had a great time. Enjoy the pictures and the few comments.

Zack likes picking up weapons and, it was amazing that we were able to touch the weapons. We also got to try on the iron helmet. It was pretty heavy.

It was fun to be able to walk around the Tower of London, trying on things, teaching weapons and thinking of how life was like during that time period. I don't think I would want to be a person having to stay in the Tower of London unless it was to have dinner with the King.

Some of the iron statues that we found around the Tower. Along with one of the guards standing outside of the area where the royal jewels are kept. We watched him stand for a few minutes and then he would march up and down the narrow place where he was positioned. It was neat to watch him and the precise moves that he made even when he turned around. I would not have wanted to be him out in the cold rain, he was  standing as if it weren't even raining. Before coming to the Tower of London I assumed that it was just one large building and actually it is made up of several large buildings including the housing for the Beefeaters who roam around the Tower. You can also have a tour of the Tower lead by one of the Beefeaters. We just lead ourselves around with our coworkers.

The same night we took a Jack the Ripper Tour. We were able to learn about the girls that he had murdered and see some of the places that he may have roamed. The bar in which the girls would hang out in front of was closed for repairs, so we went able to go into the bar. Yet another cold night, we walked around outside for two hours listening to the guide tells us about Jack the Ripper. The best thing about this tour was that we got to see parts of London that we wouldn't have gotten to see on our own. They never found Jack the Ripper and there are many theories that have evolved, one being that Jack the Ripper may have been a girl. Someone who was a friend of the girls and whom they trusted.

As we were going back to our hotel after the tour Zack and I walked around a little more. We came across the memorial of the London fires and took some pictures. Zack was busy taking pictures and I was following a white dove trying to get a picture. I did finally get a picture, but it didn't turn out too clearly. The pictures Zack took of the memorial turned out great.
